This morning we cruised 3-1/2 hours to go to Ganges on Salt Spring Island. I was expecting just a little marina like Deer Harbor but it was a very busy marina located by a very fun little town. They packed the boats into the marina but we all got docked and had time to look around.
One of the attractions at Ganges is their farmer's market so we all walked into town to check it out. Because we had just crossed into Canada, we did not have fresh fruit and vegetables so everyone stocked up at the market or at the grocery store on additional provisions. The town has a lot of character and, yes, some characters!
This evening we gathered on the dock for appetizers and Gary & Ingrid Bruhner joined us. They have been out cruising most of July and are also on their way to Splash and happened to be here at Ganges. We had a wonderful visit as we shared boating stories and got tips on various marinas that we are planning to go to. While we were visiting we heard bagpipes playing on a nearby dock. We learned from the Tacoma Yacht Club who is here that one of their members always plays his pipes at sunset so that was a real treat for me since my own family is Scottish and has been very involved in piping and dancing. It was a wonderful way to end our evening!
