Desolation Sound - Day 6 at Octopus Islands

We left early this morning for the Octopus Islands in order  to arrive at Beasley Passage and  Surge Narrows at slack tide.  It was running up to 10 knots today so we wanted to go through at the best time possible.  I caught a beautiful picture of the sun rising over the harbor as we departed.

When we arrived at Beasley Passage, it was running about 3 knots so we went ahead and went on through. We had no problems and passed through the area quickly. The scenery was beautiful as we cruised on to the Octopus Islands. I was amazed at all the little islands, some of which became rocks under shallow water during high tides. A person definitely wants to watch their charts closely when navigating this area.

After we selected where we wanted to anchor and raft together, the other boats began to drop their anchors one at a time. They then tied up to each other and the next boat did the same. Bob told me he was going to take the dinghy over to help them and I should run the boat.  My exact words were “What? What am I supposed to do?” and his response was “Just don’t hit anyone!”  Bob was a big help to the others and I kept our boat out of the way and ran it enough to keep us from drifting into shore. I actually got comfortable enough that I was tempted to take off and just cruise around the bay while I waited but decided I probably better stay right where I was! Bob returned to our boat and got a picture of me at the helm. I decided that if he was going to leave me to captain Stargazer then I deserved a picture of me doing it. The boats looked great all tied up together and I loved looking down the sterns and seeing all the American flags flying.

In the afternoon, Bob and I took the kayaks out and paddled around some of the bays and islands. It is beautiful here and so quiet.

Bob also had some time to fly his drone and GoPro camera to get some video of this bay and some great shots of the boats. The photos just don’t portray the beauty of the places we go with our boat but the video does come closer to capturing what we actually experience.
