Desolation Sound - Day 5 at Gorge Harbour

Today was our first day without cruising to a new destination. We had a very lazy morning, I got some laundry done, and then we gathered for lunch at the resort restaurant. It offers  a beautiful view of the marina and the food was excellent.

One of the sites in Gorge Harbour was huge WWII American navy ship that had been converted into a cruiser. I was told by someone on the dock that it costs about $5,000-6,0000 per day to charter. It has 6 staterooms and a crew of 6.

This afternoon Sue did some kayaking and the rest of us sat on our boats, read books and visited with the folks on other boats. One of the fun things about boating is all the nice people you meet from all over. There was a 26’ old Nordic Tug that the owner was restoring. We had fun talking “Nordic Tug” with him and admiring his restoration project. The couple on a sailboat across from us were from Powell River and were able to give Cheryl  and Larry some tips on where to go and what to see when they leave us further along in our trip.

Because of the big lunch we had at the restaurant, we opted for appetizers in the evening. We pulled a picnic table up in front of the fireplace on the waterfront and enjoyed a great dinner and several rousing games of Apples To Apples.
