Well, our plans changed. We knew it would be stormy crossing the strait but the weather report was for up to 40 knot gusts. We decided we would definitely be heading toward Roche Harbor and then across to Anacortes. Once we got out of the Inner Harbor at Victoria, it seemed pretty calm so we discussed heading toward Port Townsend after all. We decided to go with our plan to head to Anacortes and now, as I write this, we are very glad we did. We had some rough water on our way around the south tip of Vancouver Island but then it was pretty calm. We arrived in Anacortes about 2:00pm.
This evening we gathered together with Ron & Denice Coleman for pizza at Village Pizza which, by the way, has fantastic pizza! We had a wonderful visit with them and also learned that our decision to come to Anacortes was the right one. Ron & Denice said they had planned to head toward Port Townsend but didn't get very far before they turned around and came to Anacortes instead. They have a 59' Hampton and were dealing with 6-8' waves. Definitely not the kind of weather you want to be out in.
