This morning we ran north along the Sunshine Coast up to Fisherman's Resort and Marina at Pender Harbour.
We had hoped for a smooth ride but the wind began to pick up about 6:00am. It didn't sound too bad so we decided to go ahead and see what was ahead of us. We had about 3-4 foot seas which isn't a lot but there was a lot of bouncing around - including the zoom lens to my camera. Fortunately, nothing was damaged and I now know to secure a few more things than I have in the past.
The scenery was beautiful and we passed the scenic Merry Island Lighthouse and homes with amazing views of the Strait of Georgia. As we pulled around the buoy marker into Pender Harbour, we were thrilled to see where we would spend the rest of our day.
After tying up and barbecuing hotdogs for lunch, we relaxed on the deck of the boat and looked out over this amazing view.
We took a walk around the marina and explored some paths around the end of the bay. There were several quaint buildings and signs. It's a fun place to walk around and to see the bay from different vantage points.
After crossing over the bridge, the path leads on to LaVerne's Grill which makes fantastic milkshakes from 16 different flavors of ice cream. When Al and Sue went to get their milkshakes, the shop was busy so they closed the store to other customers until they had taken care of the current ones! Not exactly how we operated our business but the pace up here is a little different that in the city. We followed the path on over to Garden Bay where we found a pub that is supposed to be quite good and also the outstation for the Royal Vancouver Yacht Club. There are also many trails nearby to explore if one wants to take the time. We opted for going back to our boat and watch the boats coming and going from the marina.
After that rough ride up to Fisherman's Marina, Bob noticed our bilge pump light was on. He had to crawl down into the bilge and see if he could figure out what was wrong. Accessing the mechanics of the boat is an arduous task. There's not a lot of room and Bob is a tall guy. Fortunately, a little banging on the pump was all it took to get the light to go back off.
We topped off our day with my home-canned blackberry pie and Jack and Moon's ice cream. What a great treat for the end of an amazing day!
